![]() Dr. Carol Nechemias is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at Penn State University, Harrisburg, where she serves as Coordinator of the Public Policy program and as a long time member of the Steering Committee for the Women's Studies program. She has regularly taught courses on US public policy, US social policy, women and politics, and Russian politics. Her scholarly work includes articles on women in US politics in Western Political Quarterly and Legislative Studies Quarterly. Her work on Russian living standards has appeared in Slavic Review, Soviet Studies, Urban Studies, Studies in Comparative Communism, and Social Science Quarterly. Her current work focuses on women's status in post-Soviet Russia, which has resulted in the publication of scholarly essays on women's access to legislative seats in the Soviet Union/Russia, the development of a women's movement in Russia, women's political participation, and women's health issues. In addition, she is co-editor of two books: the Encyclopedia of Russian Women's Movements, published by Greenwood Press in 2001; and of Post-Soviet Women Encountering Transition, published by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the Johns Hopkins University Press in 2004. Dr. Nechemias received her Ph.D. from Ohio State University's Department of Political Science; her undergraduate education was at Washington University (St. Louis), where she majored in History.
